Cafe/ Events Manager

7 day roster

$55-65,000 per year salary (depending on experience)

Harvest & Soul- Catering & Events (part of the Venue Management Services Group) is growing. Our new venue, the Hawthorn Arts Centre requires a Full Time Cafe/ Venue Operations Manager.

You will be a passionate team player able to bring the following experience and qualifications to the position:

  • Minimum 3 years plus 'hands-on' supervisory or managerial experience in the hospitality and specifically the supervision and management of a retail cafe or restaurant outlet 

  • Proven ability to manage successful retail hospitality operations

  • Exposure to multi-faceted venues including retail café/ bar operations/ performing arts venues/ special events

  • Previous staff management experience and skills including direct management of casual labour

  • A true leadership style in the way you manage the venue

  • A sound knowledge of quality food and beverage

  • Ability to control labour and food and beverage costs

  • Be able to form part of a management team and communicate effectively- both written and verbally

  • Innovative approach to new ideas and operations- ability to think 'outside the box'

 

The Cafe / Events Manager will be directly responsible for:

  • Daily 'hands-on' management of the on-site 50 seat cafe

  • Supervision and accountability of venue hire spaces and function rooms and 'event bars'

  • Promote customer relations by displaying a positive attitude, identifying needs and meeting client expectations

  • Staff management (casual staff)

  • Respond to and interpret Event Orders

  • Complete daily reports and run sheets for events and venue compliance

  • Supervise and set up and breakdown of Events

  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate presentation of front and back of house areas

  • Ability to prepare and report on cafe and event financials such as cost of goods and labour

  • Ensure security of cash and beverage stock on the premises, and reconcile takings and stock as required

  • Manage the beverage ordering and stock control

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Candidates will be able to demonstrate skills / experience in:

  • Demonstrated practical experience in a similar Food & Beverage Supervisor or Maître-de position for at least 3 years;

  • Ability to implement Food & Beverage service requirements for large scale events to a high standard;

  • Proven ability to train staff and provide strong leadership;

  • Responsible Service of Alcohol Certification

  • Current First Aid / CPR - highly regarded

  • Willing and able to work across a 7 day rotating roster, including early mornings and late nights
